After S$4.3 million and more than a year in the making, Sembawang Hot Spring Park, Singapore’s only natural hot spring on the mainland, is officially opened on 4th January 2020. Mum is interested in checking the place out but as the location is about 400m away from the nearest bus stop, we got my brother to drop us off at the entrance. If you are taking public transports, check here on how to get to the park. Do take note, the hot spring area opening hours is from 7am to 7pm only.

To access to the hot spring, visitors walk along the new Floral Walk, admiring fruit trees and edible plants commonly found in kampungs and flowers often seen in the 1960s and 1990s. The rustic environment is further enhanced by unpaved paths and naturalised streams flowing from the hot spring, which mimics the freshwater swamp forest landscape.

Visitors soaking their feet at the Cascading Pool which consisted of 5-tier pools. Water coming from the top is the hottest at 70°C and cools to about 40°C as it cascades down to the lower the pools. The public can also learn more about the history of the site and geothermal processes behind the formation of a hot spring through interpretative signs located throughout the park.

If you want your own private footbath, borrow one of these Wooden Basins then use the wooden pail or ladle to scoop the hot water. Be careful if you are collecting water from the main Hot Spring Water Collection Point as the water is a scalding hot 70°C; hot enough to cook eggs. Make sure to mix with the cooler water before you plunge your legs in.

For younger children not into feet soaking, there is the Interactive Water Play Feature that allows children to learn about the groundwater cycle, as well as play safely with the warm spring water. It is designed as a table to allow everyone to use as a gathering space at the hot spring.

The Well from the old hot spring site was preserved for viewing, albeit from a distant as it is locked behind in a room so it is not accessible to the public.

In the event of rain, one can take shelter in these Sheltered Seating Areas featuring flowering creepers such as the Elephant Climber (Argyreia nervosa) climbing up the trellises.

After a good soaking, go freshen up at the washroom then sit down to enjoy a cuppa and some snacks at Sembawang Eating House (Operating Hours: 8am to 8pm). You can also tuck into local delights such as traditional soft-boiled eggs, kaya (coconut jam) & butter toast, laksa and nasi lemak though my suggestion is to just walk about 10 minutes to Chong Pang for better and cheaper alternatives.

I think due to the misuse by the visitors to the park, the wooden basins and pails are no longer provided according to this post on the official website. Else they would not ask you to bring your own buckets or pails.

Hi Kingfisher,

Thank you for the pictures and information on Sembawang Park....Pity they had to do away with the wooden pails and scoops...looked so nice and neat in a well organised manner...but not unexpected that people may abuse the good management.

Btw, how does one delete or omit pictures when replying to post with them?

Bridgehouse.

When you quote a post with images, just delete anything within the [ img] [/ img], including the tags themselves.
