This lunch at The Naked Finn happened during the time when Lobster Roll was all the rage so this review was one and the half year late. We took a long walk under the hot afternoon sun from Labrador MRT station, not knowing there was a shortcut to the restaurant. The place wasn't what I had expected; it look more like a makeshift stall converted from a training shed with plastic sheets on three sides. Do note that the restaurant had since shifted to its new location listed below.

Since we were early, the place wasn't packed yet and we quickly decided on the dishes to order, starting with this wonderfully smoky Grilled Baby Indian Squid with Sea Salt and Olive Oil. The unadorned and minimalist cooking style lends well to eating squid so you can truly enjoy its natural taste.

For the Lobster Roll, we placed an order for two as Bunny wanted one for herself. Naked Finn served their lobster roll warm using American/Maine lobster and it came in two flavours - Mayonnaise and Crème fraîche. It's accompanied by straight cut fries and salad. The lobster flesh was fresh and succulent as they used live lobsters, with the mayonnaise version slightly creamier than the Crème fraîche one. Squeeze the wedge of lemon over it and it's good to go.

When you picked up the menu, the first paragraph was already touting on their Hae Mee Tng (Prawn Noodle Soup). Our bowl of Japanese somen came with three large tiger prawns (not that giant as stated in the menu) and a slice of Kurobuta pork belly. The Broth of Hae Mee Tng was prepared using wild-caught spot prawn from Alaska, dried sakura shrimp and left to simmer for seven hours with pork stock. The result was a sweet robust broth with no added sugar and MSG. The soft Japanese somen soaking up the essence of the broth, the tender piece of Kurobuta pork and crunchy fresh prawns added up to an enjoyable eat; albeit an expensive one at S$25.

Fish and Chips used line-caught lingcod fillet dipped in Vodka, beer and honey batter then deep fried was crispy on the outside and flaky inside. Order came served with straight cut fries and salad.

Bunny had the Lychee Grapefruit Sorbet, made from a blend of lychee, pink grapefruit and acacia honey. While both Kahlan and I opted for the Naked Chendol which had coconut sorbet, pandan flavoured jelly noodles and drizzled in gula melaka. So refreshing to end the meal with.
