It's Cheese Sampling Time and everyone including the Japanese school children were crowding the tasting counter picking out the cubes of soft cheese and eating it.

The cheese that we were sampling was the Wine Cheddar Cheese (ワインチェダーチーズ) developed by Rakuno Gakuen University in 1982. Using Furano red wine to perfume the cheese and thus giving rise to a marbled appearance. It had a full-bodied flavour and a creamy taste.

Cheese for Sale but they required refrigeration so the place don't get our money. It's a pity as the wine cheddar cheese was pretty unique; mild flavoured and not that pungent. They sell cheesecake and ice cream too but I have got no pictures to show due to the crowd.

They have a range of Omiyage (お土産) from Furano like butter roll cookie, mochi, cheesecake and cheese tart but no sampling so I did not buy them for fear of wasting money on lousy snacks.

Short expiry dates for the omiyage? No problem, you can bring back the cow instead. :D/> Ok, not the real moo moo (cow) but cow backpack, cow pattern apron, cow soft toy and other related Cow Merchandises.

Since we can’t bring home those foodstuffs like chilled cheesecake and ice cream; you can store them in the stomach instead at the Rest Area. While you are there, grab that bottle of fresh milk too. Hokkaido’s milk is very creamy and yummy.

Say “cheese” at this Photo Spot while stirring the big pot over the firewood.

A tunnel led to the Hands-on Workshops (手作り体験工房) where you can learn to make butter, ice cream, bread or cheese. Other than the bread making course, you can join the classes on the actual day. For bread, an advance three days registration is required due to the time needed for the dough to rise. All courses are not available during the winter months from November to March. More details of the courses and course fees can be found here.

The Pizzeria or Pizza Factory (ピッツア工房) as they called it here sells authentic Neapolitan pizza. But this place actually had its own name - LA Bottega della Pizza. The chefs were trained in Naples, Italy and the firewood oven was also imported from the same area. At Furano, they use local produced flour, tomatoes and onions with mozzarella cheese made at their very own factory for the pizzas.

Met Aki-san and Vee as they were ordering their pizza. I had to skip it as I was still quite full from the breakfast and we were going for lunch in a couple of hours. To order, browse through the menu then buy the ticket from the Ticket Vending Machine and hand it over to the staff at the counter.

The path leading to the Ice Milk Factory (アイスミルク工房) or Ice Cream Parlour was closed off so no chance to try their ice cream. By then the school children had left and everything was back to its quiet self.

A disused red Tractor parked in open ground amidst the birch trees became a focal point as some of the visitors climbed on-board to have their picture taken.

Autumn Leaves against the backdrop of the bright blue sky as we headed back to the carpark. A last look at the cheese factory before we boarded the bus to our next destination.
