Hi everyone,

New to this forum and to growing orchids!

Interested in getting vanda sanderiana. Heard its the king of vandas. Anyone knows where i might be able to get this wonderful orchid and for how much? Used the search function but not much on getting and growing this plant. Understand the farms in singapore may have but choa chu kang is very far for me especially since i dont drive!

Also, any tips on its culture? Heard it cannot take full sun so can grow in southeast facing hdb corridor?

Quite a reluctant bloomer , would not recommend for a new beginner .

Hi digitalgate. Thanks for replying. Just wondering, u don't recommend because it takes very long to bloom or because it requires very special care to bloom? If its the first one then i don't mind waiting. Must start from somewhere! I know in one of the other threads u said ur friend took 10 years to bloom one and he seems like an expert grower (did my homework) and im prepared to wait. But if its the second then i will reconsider as i don't want to kill a plant:x

Just quite intrigued by the flowers so i really really want this plant.

Also, can u recommend some other species a beginner like me can look at? THanks!!

Try a no brainer mokara first . Move to strap leave Vanda and sanderiana after that . If u can't handle a strap Vanda . I would not touch this plant at all. First plant alway try to figure your growing condition then move to challenging plant . Most strap leave prone to fungal problem.

Actually ar, I THINK WL have, but cannot confirm yet is it really the species.

Anyway, this vanda only blooms once a year in its native Philippines.
One year bloom once orchid sometimes can grow until very pek cek.
And if it skips blooming for a year, that's it. Sian 100%

ts, you should start with a vanda hybrid 1st (if you're totally new to these bareroot type orchids). See if your place is suitable or not. See if your degree of care ok or not.
