This is Vandachostylis Colmarie, a hybrid with Vanda and Rhynchostylis in its parentage.

Lovely photos on Flickr, Ben !

My wife chose this Colmarie for its scent and color, I like it a lot too, a favorite for sure. Little flowers in a small bundle, but they beat the bigger Gardenia bundle in filling up the living room with their scent. Reminds of Dior's Poison perfume, which some women in bars I went to before use - potent, seductive. Not for everyone, probably more would like the Bellina scent.

This was the "blackest" we could find at the moment (photo in low light). Velvety in brighter light.

Speaking of dark, not a Vanda but a Paph, Maudiae

Yes, but they didn't push it. We wanted the "blackest" orchid, so went around and saw the Colmarie, dark even in sunlight. It just turned out it had a great scent we liked. And even better, it's one of the cheapest at Song, you know how it is :lol:/>/>/>. I like the collection there though, and they have names. The Colmaries were mislabeled, they only corrected it at the counter.

Mothball ? Haha, well, I already said what I thought of the scent in my previous post. Not everyone has the same scent preference, one may like Hugo Boss or Montblanc, another Guy Laroche or Dior, yet another the cheap Brut or Jovan (I like Jovan's musk oil though, was very useful). I rate this Colmarie's scent higher than my Bellinas, loved by many for its scent. YMMV really, I like them all, but the Colmarie reminds me of someone.

Need to get more Vandas, they just hang happily in the empty spaces at the sides of the lights for my bonsai trees. I don't have to worry about too much light for them like the Phals.
