Happy New Year to everyone - I wish all enthusiasts great growing and terrific blooming in 2012.

To get the ball rolling, here's a peek at whats blooming in my yard. This is a mix of self grown and recently purchased goodies ;)/>

http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii316/twofish69/P1011064web.jpg

note - this one has been blooming on and off all year long. Has one of the largest blooms in my lot.

http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii316/twofish69/P1011052web.jpg

note - this is a piece of a large specimen that I had a while back. I chopped it up into several plants and have been fostering them out to friends. A reliable bloomer that has a lovely scent.

http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii316/twofish69/P1011058web.jpg

note - I have neglected my paphs over the past 9 months and happily I discovered that they prefer this neglect!!! Inspired, I decided to add this to my lot.

Happy Growing :)/>

A few more to go:

http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii316/twofish69/P1011050-2web.jpg

note - Pink Jaguar is a compact grower that is also a solid bloomer. There are two spikes this time round with this spike maturing first.

http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii316/twofish69/P1011055web.jpg

note - I have never had an ambo flava so when this piece came around, I jumped at it.

http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii316/twofish69/P1011057web.jpg

note - a young violacea finally putting out its first blooms - recommended for anyone wanting easy to grow and super scented blooms.

And a few more:

http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii316/twofish69/P1011053web.jpg

note - after some success with Zygonisia Cynosure, I plonked down for this new hybrid which should thrive in the same conditions. The color is more electric than Cynosure.

http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii316/twofish69/P1011067web.jpg

note - who can resist the solid red and multispike, multibloom habit of this novelty phal - P Cats Paw, a solid award winner.

http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii316/twofish69/P1011054web.jpg

note - this lovely takes no space but brightens up any with its delicately tinted blooms. Easy.

Happy Growing :)/>

Nice flowers you've got there. May I ask where you bought the zygonisia cynosure hybrid from?

That plant was purchased from Woon Leng Nursery - Woon Cheng the proprietor likes to bring in rather unusual plants - unfortunately, many of them do best in intermediate cooler conditions. I hope this one will survive our heat like Zygonisia Cynosure does.

Photographic point:

Some of you have asked me what I use to shoot my photos. I used to use a DSLR but these days, I am quite happy with the results I get from my Olympus PEN2 with either a 20mm or 45mm lens. It lets me control the level of background blur well yet gives me tack sharp results in the target area. I am quite happy with the M4/3 cameras - they are smaller, more portable and gives DSLR effects.

Thanks PB - how is your collection doing? The recent cool wet weather in Singapore has been quite good at stimulating blooming for many plants especially the catts I grow outdoors.

Photography - I think I still need to improve my post processing but that is part of the fun - learning more and get better along the way :)/>

I find that scale is most prevalent on plants that are growing weakly. White oil normally solves the problem quickly.

Some new blooms to share:

http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii316/twofish69/P1041074web.jpg

note - an incredible catt - not too big, loves to bloom, blooms on multiple spikes twice a year at least. Blooms are abt 10-12 cm wide so it makes a nice display.

http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii316/twofish69/P1041076web.jpg

note - over the past year, I have fallen for the charms of this sort of dendrobium. They are evergreen, bloom nicely from both new and old canes, and often smell nice. Grows well outdoors with my catts.

http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii316/twofish69/P1041070web.jpg

note - Blc Cornerstone "YY" is a terrific full-bodied catt. Was shy to bloom last year but this year at fully mature size, I have this bloom and 2 more spikes developing now!

Yes that is Fire Coral - you must be a fan too :)/>

I have Fire Coral, Frosty Dawn, Hsingying Mareezuki and a NOID cruentum hybrid with red (not orange) markings. I prefer those that will bloom along the whole cane. There are some hybrids that tend to bloom only at the apex of the cane. I have seen some award-winning specimens of these plants that were covered in blooms. So inspiring!

I will look out for Green Lantern. Thanks for the tip.

The blooms last between 2-3 months especially if they are not exposed to rain and the plant watered regularly.

Some new blooms:

http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii316/twofish69/P1071079web.jpg

note - a first blooming of a cute harlequin phal for me - I did not know how the blooms looked like when the plant was passed on to me last year.

http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii316/twofish69/P1071084web.jpg

note - Sweet Memory hardly needs you to use your memory as it's in bloom for long stretches of time. This has been in bloom for more than 5 months and I am tempted to just rest the plant already.

http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii316/twofish69/P1071088web.jpg

note - I have always been tempted by large multifloral paphs. I plonked down for this one a few weeks ago on a whim. Hope it will grow well in a shadier area with my catts. If anyone can ID this, I would be grateful.

Dend Frosty Dawn is one of the nigrohirsute dends that can bloom along the whole cane, as the plant below (taken at a local competition in Penang, plant grown in Ipoh lowland area by the owner):

http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb239/paphioboy/IMG_1654-Copy.jpg

I think hybrids with more formosum in the background tend to flower more from the upper portion of the cane but hybrids with cruentum, draconis, scabrilingue tend to flower all along the cane.

Great paph. Looks like a paph Taiwan (platyphyllum x stonei) or Bel Royal (kolopakingii x rothschildianum) hybrid... wish I can find those here...

OMG! That is incredible growing on that Frosty Dawn - this gives me something to look forward to!!!

I dont think the paph is Bel Royal as its not a huge plant. I will check out your other suggestion - thx :)/>
