Hi Begonia growers,

Recently have been able to do an exchange for cuttings from overseaa.
It came in 3 weeks ago and have started to do cuttings propagation.

1] Begonia Chlorostica - Well I like to share that this begonia is not difficult to do stem propagation
because it started to grow new leaf after 2 weeks - media use is perlite and peat mix. I may be wrong
but take a look at the photos below:

Thanks Or Or,

Pls share with us some pointers and adv which you have experienced growing this begonia. As I have just beginning to grow them and want to know what obstacles will I need to overcome.

Meantime, I did try propagating them in 50%IBE and 50%sand mixed and it seems the cuttings are growing slower. Photo to show their small leaves growth.

http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm175/bmbalbert/Begoniareceivedfromoversea025.jpg

I also did some leaf propagation and it is too early to show how it is doing. Have you tried this before?

Cheers,
BMB Albert

I have killed a few plants already - very hard one for me. It grows on misty montane forest so may need to grow in air-con terrariums for best results. So far I am resisting terrariums since its not very eco-friendly. I have zero success growing in ambient temperature - the leaf rots very easily. Maybe putting in near a water feature, without the splashes, can help.

Thanks for your reply OrOr and reviewing what you have gone through. From my observation, the media peat and perlite seems to grow faster and I guess are more suitable for growing them. I intend to switch all the growing cuttings to peat and perlite. What do you think?

This is how I grow most Begonias except some limestone sp. Just throw in a bit of slow release.

Wish to share an update of the condition of this Begonia Chlorostica growing - after more than a week from my first posting it has grown bigger with additional stem and another new leaf growth. Also I could see a small new leaf growth at the bottom of the stem. Now this begonia plant is growing in an open environment conditions - No more in the sealed container. Have a look at the photo below:

Hi Talos,

Thanks for viewing the above posting. Is there a different coloration and form for Chlorostica?
I am new in growing this begonia and I am still learning from experienced growers.
Can share with us what are the obstacles you have gone through... etc....
Pls show us a photo of your chlorostica clone.

Cheers,
BMB Albert

Thanks Talos for showing us a photo of your clone Begonia Chlorostica. Wow! very beautiful with nice deep colors and flowers . Yes, I will reduce my watering.
I am just waiting for my plants to grow bigger. I think now till end of the year the weather is cooler and their growth will be slower.
What media did you use and is your plant being grown in the open under shelter away from sun and rain?
Thanks in advance for your generous sharing..

Cheers,
BMB Albert

Hi Albert, I grow them in different media.
Some in sphagnum and some in well draining soil mix or peat moss mix.
Some under shelter and some in the open. All seem to be doing well
