Hello.

I got the Ludisia Discolour "Alba" by chance at World Farm last week when I visited the farm with my friends. They are known for their foliage instead of flowers which are "insignificant"

There are many other types of Jewel Orchids which I am still keen like the Macodes Petola

http://www.tropicale....com/jewel1.htm

do let me know if anyone came across any other types of Jewel Orchids :-)

I don't really like/grow orchids, but I have to say the descriptions and commentaries on each orchid on the second link made me laugh. :)/>

Hello. cucubirds

Yes, there are still a lot left waiting for you :-). It costs $13 per pot and so I get one to add it to my Jewel Orchids collections - it is quite rare species :-)

Wanted to collect the rest of the Jewel Orchids as well - very very nice foliage. Currently, I have the Ludisia Discolour (normal type) and Ludisia Discolour "Alba" - Green leaved type

Hope you get it soon.

You are welcome. If they have DIFFERENT TYPES of Jewel Orchids - must keep me informed :-)

I quite like the Macodes Petola - the foliage is very very atractive

HI Orchidlover and other friends who grow Jewel Orchids. World Farm is stocking about 8 Jewel Orchids for sale. All of them are the same. I bought one. Hua Hng, another plant nursery along the same road in Sembawang also stocks 10 Jewel Orchids but I don't know what they look like becuase I only phoned. Both are at $15 each.

What is the best potting mix for Jewel Orchids? They like semi shade? Water them once a week? What fertilisers and how often should I apply them? My relative waters her orchids which are not Jewel Orchids with the water left over from rinsing raw rice. Do Jewel Orchids grow better with this? Happy growing. Thanks.

Most Jewel Orchid prefer humid condition to grow them.
They will dry up if too hot or dry.

Too wet the growing medium, the plant will rot.

usually lab jewel orchid are more easy to grow but they are weaker in genes(that what i think, it might not be true)

Try not to move them too much around as they might die.
But not always will die.

Take good care of them.

I called World Farm and was told the Jewel Orchids are those "Brown" coloured leaves - I already have it

I am looking for the GREEN coloured leaved type which I used to have 1 but die off - bought from World Farm but was told they are not likely to import again :-(
