Plant Exchange
Since we still have quite some time before the gathering, I thought it will be fun if some (the more the merrier) of us try to root cuttings or germinate some seeds for exchange or lucky draw. If each can of us can do 5 small pots, there will be more than enough to go around. Hopefully everyone can go home with a least a new plant that have not tried growing. What do you all think ?

Hi GB, that is a good idea. My mother plant murraya paniculata has about 5 ripen fruits. Should be enough for about 5 members or more whose names are not picked during the lucky draw depending on germination rates. As the seeds take 10-14 days to germinate, there should be at least something green in the cups by then. Will post in this thread for the germination process till the BIG day. Below is a pic of the mother plant and its flowers which are more fragrant than the local one.

It would be nice to know what you are trying but no worries,we can make a list as it get nearer to the big date. We will just play by the ear.

Take this as a fun challenge, don't sweat over it. I will propagate some begonia and hoya bella.

BTW, for those who are scratching their head trying to decide what to propagate, these are some plants you can consider : AV, Gloxi, Balsam, Fittonia, Episcia, Money plant, Euphorbia milli, mint, caladium, Hibiscus,Peperomia, Russelia, Sansevieria, Portulaca (Japanese rose) ..

You can either grow from seeds (balsam, Periwinkle, Petunia..), cutting (mint, fittonia, moneyt plant, Episcia euphorbia ) or even buy a pot form nursery and split them into multiple pots (Fittonia, Peperomia..). Take this as an opportunity to try out plant propagation.

Hehe ok well I'm currently trying out balsam and roselle. I can also start a bunch of petunia seedlings but i don't know if they'll be ready by the gathering. Should I try anyway? I also have angelonia cuttings rooting, and dahlberg daisies are easy enough to grow. I can also contribute lots of portulaca (double petalled). :)/>

Haha, I am ever ready for seedling, I have kept some recycle plastic cup from my girl last party, there are rooted mulberry plants in some of the cup already. Will 'cup' up some of my weeds in my garden to spread out :hysterical:/>

I have sowed 5 pots today and have 4 fruits left. Need to search for more solo cups in my office that are left over after some party. Should have enough for 10 members provided lady luck is with me. Seedlings in general will bloom 3-4 months later after germination.

can I have a small suggestion?
we should label the plants on the cups so that it is easier to exchange and the receiver will know the name of the plant
(ok, I admit, I am bad with names)

many thanks

I've got AV babies separated from mother plant & Dahlia 'Cinderella' germinated from seeds plus whatever germinated successfully by then.

look like we can have a wanted list and plants give away or exchange list, easy for everyone to look at it.
I will propagate some plants for exchange too.....

Sigh...I won't be able to go for the gathering again. But I believe I will have some common gloxis to contribute as well as episcia stolens or even coleus cuttings. Let's see if I have time to pot them up before the gathering. If you guys are still short of plants, can come and collect from me.

Just wondering: so are the giveaways supposed to be door gifts? Otherwise some folks may still end up empty-handed...I was actually thinking more along the lines of door gift, and wanted/exchange list (for less generic plants?) as separate. What do you all think?

Maybe we can also do some packets of seeds since some members may prefer to try seeds. I have a big packet of roselle seeds, courtesy of babyblue. :)/>

1. Green Baron - Begonia, Hoya Bella
2. Ah Kee - Roselle
3. Boonboon - Murraya paniculata x 10
4. Faeryberry - herbs, flowers and edible seeds
5. FluffyMutt - Balsam, Portulaca, Angelonia... (what seedlings & quantity to be confirmed)
6. Abby - Mulberry + ....
7. Sunbird - AV, Dahlia 'Cinderella'
8. Alan Lim
9. guppy - common gloxis, episcia stolens, coleus cuttings

If ok with doorgift idea then perhaps we need to coordinate how many pple turning up and make sure enough doorgifts for everyone.

just my suggestion :flowers:/>
