i notice some stems of this newly-planted costus will droop all the way to the soil and start to have offshoots with miniature roots. i don't see any offshoots on erect stems. anyone knows if this type of growth is particular to costus woodsonii only? and should i, when the roots become more prominent, cut off the offshoot and plant it somewhere else? any advice will be most appreciated

yeap..u can use stem to propagate it from the stems even though there are no roots showing it will still be alive. Zero deaths in the cuttings.

Hi,

From my little experience, you don't have to wait for the roots to become prominent, you can cut it off togather with the main stem and plant it. Or you can also use cuttings from the stems and stick them into ground. Sometime you can also see off shoot at the flower crown, cut the flower crown and plant it in soil. Just my sharing. Cheers :)/>
