Hi lucy123 and everyone else,

skydude's plant is called Zamioculcas zamiifolia...don't know what the common name or chinese name is though (my Mandarin sucks, sorry). Fu Gui Hua would be Adenium obesum, the Desert Rose... different plant and different family.

Skydude, congrats on successfully propagating your plant. Not bad for your first time :)/> Your mother plant should survive if you removed all the rotten roots (Zamioculcas are quite hardy)... I think you can water it, just not too much for now.

I myself have a big-sized plant at home. Its a little 'under the weather' now, with a few yellowing leaflets. I think its due to all the painting thats been going on inside and outside of my block. My plant's in the corridor and I think maybe the paint fumes are affecting it because one of my other plants, also an aroid, recently showed exactly the same symptoms. They were both fine before the painting started. Anyway, my Zamioculcas just produced a lovely new shoot so I'm quite hopeful it will make it through. I've been wanting to divide and repot it for a long time but have been too afraid to do so... I killed my Alocasia by damaging the roots badly while repotting it. Does anyone know how to do it properly?

Sorry for being so lor sor everyone, and thanks. Skydude, all the best!

Regards,
Gloria

Should be able to survive. Mine, one branch broke, I cut it and poke into the soil. Few mths later, roots start to grow.
It's very hardy, won't die so easily.

just a word of caution - apparently Zamioculcas zamiifolia may be toxic if ingested so best to keep it away from chewing pets or kids.
