Once they bear its cephalium (reddish coomb), will the cactus continue growing?

The cactus will stop growing once it matures with the formation of the cephalium which can keep on growing for many years, and in some species can exceed the height of the body itself. I got one that I bought years ago and it produces flowers and fruits quite readily once subjected to direct sun.
