All
plant lovers who have been to Bangkok will have heard of the famous
Chatuchak Market. It is virtually a tropical plant lover's paradise,
a wide range of plants can be found on sale, which include orchids,
aquatic plants, cacti and succulents, popular ornamentals like
the Adenium and Plumeria, and numerous exotics. There is really
too much to list here! Whilst you are there, do also explore the
plant nurseries in the area.
The
Chatuchak Market is also known as the 'Jatujak Market'. It is located
next to Chatuchak Park and that is how the flea market got its name in
1978. Its sheer size has earned it a record in the Guiness Book
of World Record for being the world's largest flea market.
This
flea market sells a wide range of items, not just plants. Stalls
that sell gardening products and plants are all lined up in Sections
3 and 4. The plant market, although it is well known to be open
during the weekends, sales of plants also take place during mid-week
on Wednesdays and Thursdays!
The skytrain is perhaps the best transportation mode, of the many
others that you can choose to take. Hitch a ride on skytrain and
alight at Mochit station, the last northbound station. Its location
on the map can be found at the bottom right hand corner. Upon
exit at Mochit station, Chatuchak Park will be within sight and
the flea market is nearby!

Go
to the market early to avoid the heat as well as to be an early
bird. Grab a copy of a map of Chatuchak if you are unfamiliar
with the place. Lastly, beware of pickpockets!
